‘I love coming up with different designs and products; seeing people appreciate them makes me want to do more’. Motivation for Edwina Assan, Managing Director of EDTEX acronym of Edwina Textiles who is in the business of creating hand waxed batik fabrics for fashion designers and also turning them into fashion accessories and home décor products. These include but are not limited to wall art, curtains, fashion accessories, table linen (table runners, table cloths, placemats), aprons, cushion covers and wine sacks. Motifs for design are inspiration from nature, traditional Adinkra symbols and geometric designs set in rich – coloured, hand-dyed fabrics. Edwina is a graduate from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Textile option and Certificate in Management from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). She has also participated in a number of short courses and training sessions in both Ghana and abroad. Interestingly, what started as a hobby in sewing is now a successful International business with patrons across the United States, Canada, Italy, Ivory Coast, Kenya and South Africa fashion designers, wholesalers and retailers.
